Johnson was the very first student to earn a Master of Fine Arts degree at the Marilyn K. Glick Center for Glass in Ball State University. He received his BFA from Ohio’s Kent State University and supplemented his education by studying in several other academies such as the Corning Museum of Glass and the Scuola del Vetro Abate Zanetti in Italy.
His works have been exhibited at the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Society for Contemporary Craft, the Toledo Museum of Art and the Indiana State Museum. He has also been featured in the publication Art Glass Today. He is currently the Glass Studio Chair at the Indianapolis Arts Center.
